September 11, 2017, ALEXANDRIA, VA – National Industries for the Blind (NIB), a nonprofit organization that is the nation’s largest employment resource for people who are blind, stands with the White House nomination of Emily Webster Murphy as the next administrator for the General Services Administration (GSA). Ms. Murphy, an experienced government procurement expert and former Capitol Hill staffer, is an outstanding choice for the position based on her reputation and experience in the federal government and GSA.
Ms. Murphy has demonstrated effective leadership serving as GSA’s first chief acquisition officer from 2005–2007. She was also policy director and senior counsel of the House Small Business Committee, where she was responsible for oversight, investigations, legislation, and outreach related to government contracting and workforce issues.
GSA is an important partner of NIB and its associated nonprofit agencies through the AbilityOne® Program, a federal government initiative that is one of the nation’s largest source of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. As a central nonprofit agency under the AbilityOne Program, NIB works with GSA to create and sustain employment for thousands of people who are blind across the country.
