Tom Mikrut joined NIB in April 2018 as Assistant General Counsel and assumed the role of general counsel to NIB in August 2019. In his role, Mr. Mikrut oversees NIB’s department of legal affairs and is responsible for shaping and executing legal strategy for the organization.
Mr. Mikrut has considerable experience in government contracting and procurement, state and federal regulation, and dispute resolution. He began his legal career as a litigation attorney at Foley & Lardner LLP in Chicago, Illinois, and subsequently served as deputy general counsel in the Office of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, and general counsel for the Illinois Department of Central Management Services.
Mr. Mikrut earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Illinois, where he also earned his Juris Doctorate summa cum laude from the university’s College of Law. In addition, he has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah Eccles School of Business. In the community, Mr. Mikrut has served on the board of directors of the Legal Council for Health Justice in Chicago and the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago.
