Welcome to the National Industries for the Blind blog! We look forward to sharing with you news and stories about our mission to enhance the independence of people who are blind and the incredible people working in our associated nonprofit agencies through posts on a variety of topics.
As the nation responds to the coronavirus, we are working hard to meet the needs of our associated agencies, customers, and other stakeholders. During this crisis, our blog is serving as a resource for our community. From assistive technology tips as the vast majority of the workforce transitions to telework, to ways to cope with the added burden that coronavirus-related restrictions put on people who are blind, to how our agencies are stepping up to the plate, our posts will shine a light on how this crisis is affecting our community, and how we are working to overcome it.
In addition, this blog is a place to learn about the many aspects of employment for people who are blind; from training to advocacy to assistive technology—and everything in between.
Here you can learn about the innovative SKILCRAFT® products and services being delivered by people who are blind through the AbilityOne® Program, along with NIB’s award-winning professional development programs—including computer training and business education—that are preparing people who are blind to succeed in any career they choose.
But most importantly, you’ll get a chance to meet some of the nearly 6,000 Americans who are blind, including our nation’s veterans, working in NIB’s nationwide network of associated nonprofit agencies.
As we continue to build our blog, we’ll keep you up-to-date on what’s happening at NIB so you’ll always have access to timely information. We invite you to bookmark this page and check back weekly for new posts.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. If you have topics you’d like us to cover, or other ideas or suggestions, email communications@nib.org. See you soon!
